Who we are

Empowering children, families, and communities for a brighter, sustainable future.

Community Volunteer Initiative for Development (COVOID)

COVOID is an indigenous, child-focused, non-governmental organization officially registered with the Uganda Ministry of Internal Affairs (Registration No. S.5914/6699). With its roots firmly planted in the local context and its vision aligned with global standards, COVOID has dedicated itself to tackling interlinked issues of HIV/AIDS, poverty, food insecurity, child abuse, and environmental degradation.

Our work is not just driven by local needs—but also by international commitments. COVOID operates under the guiding principles of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC, 1989), advocating tirelessly for the protection, survival, development, and participation of every child. We don’t just champion children’s rights—we actively work to implement and operationalize them at the grassroots level.

Over a decade and a half of impactful programming has earned COVOID a place of trust and respect in Uganda’s development sector. We are proud members of the National NGO Forum and the National SDG Reference Group, where we lend our grassroots insights to shape national policy and strategy.

Our operational footprint spans ten districts across Western and South Western Uganda:
Mitooma, Rubirizi, Sheema, Buhweju, Bushenyi, Ntungamo, Kiruhura, Isingiro, Kibaale, and Kakumiro.

Headquartered in Rubirizi District, COVOID maintains active field offices in each of these districts to ensure proximity to the communities we serve. Recognizing the need for stronger national coordination, we also operate a liaison office in Kampala, which is set to evolve into a full-fledged country office in the near future.

In alignment with the global agenda for sustainable development, COVOID actively contributes to the realization of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with focused efforts on:

Goal 1: No Poverty
Goal 2: Zero Hunger
Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being
Goal 4: Quality Education
Goal 5: Gender Equality
Goal 6: Clean Water and Sanitation
Goal 7: Affordable and Clean Energy
Goal 14: Life Below Water
Goal 15: Life on Land
By weaving these goals into every project and partnership, COVOID ensures that local action has global impact.

The main target group for COVOID are children and women. We focus mainly on Vulnerable children, marginalized women and youth. Priority is given to Orphans and Vulnerable Children especially those orphaned as a result of HIV/AIDS epidemic, and other circumstances. The marginalized poor who cannot earn a dollar or spend it a day- We use the vulnerability assessment tool to identify them.

At COVOID, we believe that when children thrive, communities flourish. Our programs are community-led, culturally sensitive, and designed with sustainability at their core. From empowering girls with education and protection from abuse, to supporting households with climate-smart agriculture and clean energy solutions, our work is as diverse as it is vital.

As we look ahead, COVOID remains committed to being a catalyst for lasting change—where every child is safe, every family is resilient, and every community is empowered to shape its own future.
