Community Volunteer Initiative for Development (COVOID) is a national indigenous child and woman focused NGO duly registered with Uganda NGO Bureau ( Ministry of internal affairs) of Uganda Government. COVOID was founded in April 2003 by development oriented community members to act as a voice in addressing the identified community issues of HIV/AIDS, ignorance, Poverty, food insecurity, child abuse, environmental degradation etc. COVOID derives its mandate from United nations child rights convention ( UNCRC 1989) and CEDAW 1979 ( Convention for elimination of all forms Discrimination against women) and the organization promotes the implementation and operationalization of the above two covenants . COVOID also supplements the efforts of Uganda Government to realize United Nations Sustainable development Goals 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7. 13, 15. ( Agenda 2030 for sustainable development). COVOID in line with her 2023-2025 trategy1 COVOID offers programs in the sectors of livelihood security, health promotion, social protection, and environmental sustainability and programs are delivered in two contexts of humanitarian and development. The humanitarian program is supporting Refugees and host communities in Nakivalle Refugee settlement (Isingiro District) with support from BMZ/AWO international, Germany. Currently COVOID is a sub grantee to Education Development Centre (EDC ) implementing the USAID/ ICYD Activity, COVOID is engaging youth in soft skills and Work readiness training and transitional support targeting OVC aged 15-17 directly supported by ICYD, youth aged 18-24, OVC caregivers aged 18-29 directly supported by ICYD and other high-risk out-of-school youth, such as adolescent girls and young women, youth with disabilities, sex workers or children of sex workers, young parents, and other high-risk youth. COVOID is a member of the National NGO forum and a member of the National SDG reference group . The organization prides in almost 2 decades of good track record in implementing human development Programs in South Western Uganda with support from Donors/ Development Partners such as UPHOLD/USAID, Stromme Foundation, CARE International in Uganda/Bill gates . MGLSD/USAID, NIKE Foundation, UNFPA, , FK Norway, USAID/AVSI/SCORE Project, FAO, United Nations Millenium Campaign, Newyork and etc.
